Resemblance with cat due to the retraceable claws & slit eyes, foxes belong to the dog family being the smallest creature to be in this family. Foxes like to play with their target once captured and then kill it. Before that, fox will closely stalk the prey before making a move.
Size & appearance
An average fox will be same size as medium-sized dogs. Foxes are lightweight & skinny. In some cases, foxes will weigh 24 lbs and can grow in height too. Their tail however is different to dogs and can grow 12 inches long.
Biology
Being monogamous means they will stick to one partner their entire life and mate a few times with the same partner. For feeding the younger ones, other foxes might become grannies to help. In rare cases, a male will be found mating with more than one fox. The sound that they make include howl, yips & growl.
Diet & Behaviour
Fox like to feed on meat & vegetables both so are considered to be omnivores. For a good meal, foxes like to eat rabbits, hares, rats & lizard. In some cases, fruits will also attract fox and they eat some in one go. Also, fox are nocturnal so they prefer hunting at night with agility and the speed of 45 mph at max. The sharp eyes that they possess is compared to those of cats and the eyesight is very good.
Habitat
Fox relish in wooden areas but for search of prey and other matters, they can be found in mountains & desserts as well.
Life Cycle
They will mate between Decembers to February in cold and once the mother is ready to give birth, the babies comes in numbers. 4-5 babies are born usually. Blind and without fur at all, the mother does not leave them until they grow big enough to survive on their own.
